Sustainable Construction Methods
- Get the breeze in: We maximize the cross breezes in the house which gets the moisture out and the cool fresh air in.
- Sun shading: We incorporate elements into our houses that provide sun shading in order to help keep them cool. Large overhangs, low tech sliding wood sunshades, movable or non movable louvers all keep the strong sun out.
- Cooling materials:Refreshing water features or cooling pools close to the house, wood decks which retain less heat than stone or concrete slabs, and screens all play a role in cooling the house down.
- Efficient cooling system: Features in our houses such as ceiling fans, house fans, and cool roof systems serve as energy efficient means for keeping homes cool in hot weather.
- Efficient fixtures: We use LED lights in our houses which are huge energy savers.
- Home Automation: We incorporate Home Automation Controllers into our design to efficiently control all electrical systems from one central location. (More Info at: Control4)
- Alternative energy sources: We design houses which rely mostly on alternative energy sources including solar, wind generation, and hydro electric power. More about Alternative Energy ...
- Re-use water: Rain-water catchment systems collect rain water for irrigation, pools and secondary water usage like toilets.
- Sustainably harvested hardwoods: We use only sustainably harvested lumber, hurricane wood or reclaimed timber for our projects.
- Non-off-gassing materials: We never use VOC paints in our houses and we make sure that we use only formaldehyde-free materials. Our timber frames get only treated with a couple coats of linseed oil.
